Frequently asked questions
Common questions from functional and integrative medicine practitioners evaluating SomaVue. Still have a question? Email hello@somavue.co.
How is SomaVue different from manually interpreting Quest or LabCorp results?
SomaVue keeps the entire interpretation chain — 206 markers across 17 panels, 37 cross-marker pattern rules, and 3,381 pre-mapped clinical interpretations from 1,467 peer-reviewed sources — already structured before any patient data is loaded. Manual interpretation typically takes 30–60 minutes per case and relies on the practitioner's memory of optimal ranges, marker interactions, and supporting literature. SomaVue automates pattern detection across the full panel, surfaces the four-lens analysis (nutrient, toxin, infection, circadian), and attaches the specific citation to every clinical claim.
How is SomaVue different from using ChatGPT for lab interpretation?
Zero LLM runs in the SomaVue interpretation loop. Every clinical claim is pre-mapped by a naturopathic doctor to a specific peer-reviewed citation before any patient uploads a result. ChatGPT and other LLMs generate plausible-sounding clinical language at inference time, which means citations can be invented, ranges can drift between answers, and there is no auditable source for any claim. SomaVue's 3,381 interpretations are static, sourced, and reviewable. See the full comparison.
What lab providers does SomaVue support?
SomaVue is lab-agnostic. The PDF import recognizes Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp report formats out of the box, and manual value entry works for any laboratory worldwide as long as the marker is in the SomaVue glossary. Reference ranges are stored as both standard (typical Quest/LabCorp) and functional (integrative-medicine consensus). For regional labs not in PDF format, enter the values manually — SomaVue applies the same interpretation logic.
Is patient data HIPAA-compliant?
Patient PDFs are parsed entirely in the practitioner's browser using client-side JavaScript — the file never leaves the device and is never uploaded to SomaVue servers. Patient records that the practitioner chooses to save are stored in an authenticated Supabase project under the practitioner's account. SomaVue Inc. is not a covered entity and does not sign BAAs at this time; practitioners using SomaVue with identifiable patient data should treat it as they would any other clinical decision-support tool — enter the minimum data necessary, use de-identified records when possible, and consult their own HIPAA risk assessment.
Can I import multi-draw timelines from a single PDF?
The current PDF importer binds values from the most recent draw column in multi-column lab reports. Full multi-draw timeline parsing — creating one draw record per dated column from a Quest or LabCorp multi-draw PDF — is on the roadmap. In the meantime, practitioners can enter prior draws manually or import each draw as a separate PDF; the patient timeline view will then graph all of them in chronological order.
Does SomaVue replace clinical judgment?
No. SomaVue is an educational reference tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, mitigate, or prevent disease. Every interpretation is presented as a hypothesis-generating starting point with the supporting citation attached — the licensed practitioner remains responsible for the clinical decision. The disclaimer is reinforced inside the app and on every shared patient PDF.
How are the functional reference ranges chosen?
Functional ranges are derived from integrative and functional medicine consensus — Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) reference materials, Dicken Weatherby's and Bryan Walsh's clinical literature, and the founder's clinical experience as a naturopathic doctor. Where sources disagree, SomaVue selects the range most consistent with the underlying physiology and notes it in the marker documentation. A monthly AI clinical-reasoning pass plus a weekly heuristic scan check every range against typical Quest and LabCorp adult references.
What clinical panels does SomaVue cover?
Seventeen panels covering 206 markers: Pancreas, Kidneys, Gastrointestinal, Gallbladder, Liver, Thyroid, Inflammation, Bone Marrow, CBC, CMP, Lipids, Iron, Hormones, Nutrients, Toxins, Infections, and Circadian. The full marker list lives at somavue.co/markers.
What does the four-lens analysis mean?
Every marker is mapped to four interpretive lenses: Nutrient (which deficiencies or excesses could drive the result), Toxin (which environmental or endogenous toxins are implicated), Infection (which acute or chronic infections shift this marker), and Circadian (how diurnal rhythm and hormone timing affect the value). The lenses are color-coded in the app and each interpretation links to the supporting peer-reviewed citation.
What are the cross-marker pattern rules?
37 pre-built rules detect clinically meaningful patterns across multiple markers — for example, low ferritin plus elevated hsCRP suggests inflammation masking iron deficiency; elevated GGT plus elevated triglycerides plus low HDL suggests metabolic-syndrome-driven hepatic stress. Each pattern includes a "resolves when" hint describing the marker changes that would resolve the pattern.
How much does SomaVue cost?
Free tier with limited interpretations. SomaVue Pro is $59/month or $468/year (save 34%) for unlimited interpretations, all four lenses, citations, patient PDF export, and a 14-day free trial — card required at signup. SomaVue Clinic is $129/month or $1,068/year (save 31%) and adds 5 practitioner seats, branded patient PDFs, shared marker library, and priority support.
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes — every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. A card is required at signup so the plan converts automatically if you don't cancel, but you can cancel anytime during the trial directly from the customer portal.
Can I export a patient-friendly report?
Yes — every interpretation can be exported to a patient-ready PDF that includes the marker values, where they sit relative to standard and functional ranges, the practitioner's case notes, and any cross-marker patterns flagged. Clinic-tier subscribers get branded PDFs with their clinic logo and contact information.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the customer portal from your account settings inside the app — Stripe handles cancellation, plan changes, payment-method updates, and invoice history. Cancellation is immediate at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then.
